The Fire of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost 2026)

Play episode

Pentecost is the birthday of the Church—the day God made His home in the human heart.

In this Pentecost Sunday sermon from Acts 2, Pastor Matt explores the great theme of Scripture: the holy God coming home to humanity. From the Garden, to the tabernacle, to the temple, to the coming of Christ, the story of the Bible moves toward this moment: the Holy Spirit descending upon the Church and filling God’s people with His presence.

This message focuses especially on the Holy Spirit as fire and dove. As fire, the Spirit purifies sin, illuminates Scripture, comforts the heart, and ignites the Church for mission. As dove, the Spirit brings new creation, resurrection life, innocence, assurance, and freedom from guilt and shame.

In this message:

  • Why Pentecost is the birthday of the Church
  • God’s desire to dwell in the human heart
  • The Holy Spirit as fire
  • The Holy Spirit as dove
  • How the Spirit brings dead things to life
  • Why forgiveness brings freedom
  • The call to repent, believe, and receive new life

Scripture: Acts 2:1–4
